Bradford Cyrenians develops a Resettlement & Outreach
Service
at its Hostel & Trainer Flats service
After applying to Lloyds TSB
Foundation, Bradford Cyrenians is pleased to confirm that we have secured 2
years funding to appoint a resettlement & outreach worker.
We
recognise that outreach services are crucial in the lives of vulnerable men
as it is the critical period that they will need support around things like
making sure benefits are up and running, furniture is purchased, utilities
are connected and are registered in the tenants name and that they know how
to budget money and pay bills.
It is these first few weeks and months
that can be the deciding factor as to whether a tenancy succeeds or
fails. We all want our service
users to succeed in their tenancies and become good citizens who contribute
to their locality.
Another reason that tenancies often
fail in the first few months is that service users can feel isolated,
especially if they are not used to living on their own or if they move to
an area where they may not know anyone.
The benefits of having a resettlement
& outreach service means it will provide a seamless service from
someone moving out of our temporary accommodation and into their new
home. In addition to establishing
the service user in their home they would also help in engaging them in
long-term goals such as volunteering work, sports activities or work-like
activities such as training education and employment.
